English question: What is the point of this joke?

A Coyote Cactus

A city boy went out West to visit his old Uncle, miles from anywhere, on a big ranch with mostly sand and cactus.
After the sun went down they went to bed, and it was so dark the boy was afraid. As he lay there he heard a mournful, otherworldly sound.
Frightened, he called out to the old Uncle, “There’s werewolves! I hear werewolves!”
“That’s rubbish, Boy. Ain’t no such thing.”, his Uncle answered.
“Then it must be man-eating wolves!”
“No. we don’t have those either. Now go to sleep!”
The sound started again.
“Then, what is it?” he called out, terrified.
“They’re only coyotes.”
“Coyotes? What’s that?”
“They’re a lot like dogs. In fact, you can consider them a kind of dog.”
“Then why are they making this horrible noise?”
” See, Boy, we ain’t got many trees around here,. We got Cactuses!”

****************************
Question:
Why is the “See, Boy, we ain’t got many trees around here,. We got Cactuses!” the punchline? What is the point to laugh?

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Most people don’t like coyotes or wolves thinking of them as evil even though they are not.

jonthepain answers:

Yeah… That’s a really bad idea, and a poor motivation as well. Wild animals need to be left wild. Raising one on purpose to think you’re its parent is terribly irresponsible to the animal and to any other people it may come in contact with.

It’s also not legal in many states. When I worked for a rehabber in Florida, state law said that any animals that weren’t truly wild could not be released and had to be put down as too dangerous (too used to people, no fear).

Randomly messing around with wild animals is also a great way to get yourself a dangerous, possibly fatal, disease. Rabies, tularemia, baylisascaris infection… None of ‘em are fun ways to go, and you could be exposed to any/all of them if you go forward with this plan here.

You clearly don’t know what you’re doing, so you won’t be taking care of the animal correctly. It’ll be sick and in worse trouble than before, and you’ll be in danger too. So just forget about it.

Another story I’d like rated that I wrote!!!!?

I came up with this AMAZING main idea…here it is! I hope you like it!!! 1-10…1 being THE worst thing you’ve ever read and 10 being really good in anyway you can think of! Sorry, it might be boring at the beginning. It’s not as good as my first one! For anyone who hadn’t read my last one, I’m 13. Thanks for all comments!!! Here it is!

Filled with Love
It came about early one autumn day. I was all alone. It wandered about in my back yard, very thin and very lonely. It looked at me so many times, I could hardly keep count.
The minute it reached the flower I planted in the empty field…it stopped. The coyote kept staring at it. I saw it was wounded on its back thigh and I could see it’s ribs. He appeared old. All I remember are those mesmerized eyes, fixed onto that one, blue bachelor button. He sniffed it, nuzzled it softly then walked away.
I walked into my quiet house. I picked up a small pail, carried it out to the pump and let it run under water. I returned to the house, and grabbed my gloved, planning to water the flower.
I heard something. The bucket clanging, some sloshing and something softly pressing against the stones and dirt that consisted of my backyard.
Quietly walking outside, I witnessed the most kind-hearted thing I’ll ever remember. The coyote had the bucket firmly held in his mouth. He slowly walked over to the flower he set the bucket down beside the blue button flower. He bit the rim of the bucket and started tilting it toward the flower, pouring the water onto it. He quickly stopped and replaced the bucket, back under the pump.
That night, he slept with the small flower right in front of his nose. For a week, he’d water the flower, love the flower, protect the flower, if the soil cracked up, he gently scratch at the soil and turn it up without bothering the small flower. Within that week it grew, but only slightly.
I had always gave my leftovers to that old coyote. One morning, I tossed out my breakfast, without even glancing at the flower in the middle of that vast open field. The usually starving mad coyote who came rushing up, never came. My breakfast was still out there when I threw out my lunch.
I looked over at the flower. The old, skin and bones coyote, lie dead next to the flower. I found myself flying at light speed toward the small coyote. He lay in a crumpled heap next to the blue bachelors button. I stroked his head, knowing now, that his only friend was the flower. Something wet splashed onto the tip of his ear as pet his head. I looked closer, only to see another. I now realized it was my tears. I gave a small smile, got the shovel and gently dug up the flower with its roots. I set it in the water bucket and dug the grave for the coyote where the flower was. When he was laying peacfully in his grave, I set the flower back, right on top of that old coyote.
From then on, I had refused to look out back to the flower. I closed all those blinds that day and had never opened them.
No sound came. Nothing came. I lived in the middle of nowhere with no one, but myself for company. Not until the bird came. A bird? Why would a bird be at my house? We had dry earth, no trees, nothing. It pecked at my window. The one with the blinds closed. I tore open the blinds and ran outside to greet the bird finding myself among many others. Trees, bushes, flowers, plants! Life! A whole forest! I lifted up my skirt and ran through the trees. I skipped and twirled, but something blue caught my eye. The blue bachelor button. It was at an unbelievable hight. I laughed and rolled in the dirt…caught by how moist it was, yet warm. I let it cover me up, it seemed to be filled with a magical fertilizer called love.
The coyote gave the flower the love it needed, expanding into a forest.
His love is still growing with his only friend, his only hope, his only faith. It’s growing along with the forest. The soil there is magical. It’s filled with love.

WOW!
This is also a great story! I still like the other one better, but maybe that’s because I’m such a sucker for romance =P

I think one thing I liked about this story was its imagery. I think it was the same with the other one. I like how you know what to tell and you know what to keep in so that we can picture this easily. It was like a movie playing in front of me as I read through.

Also, this story felt very… Surreal-ish. I don’t know… I can’t find the word, but this story makes you go from thinking “Oh, it’s a story of the normal world,” to “Woah, forests? Unbelievably tall blue bachelor button? OoOoOoOoh” which was interesting.

However, I kinda felt that you introduced the coyote too early. I mean, maybe that’s just me, but if you call “it” the coyote later, the impact of the “it” will be greater, because honestly speaking, it was just like “Oh. It’s a coyote.” instead of the “OH! It was a coyote?!?” it should have. (=D)

It could be a teensy bit better, but otherwise, overall good job!
Love your imagination with this!
It also has that pro-animal/wildlife-conservation/pro-nature kind of feel to it. =P

The Odyssey is seperated into Books, which are basically like the chapters of a book. For instance, Books 1 – 4 are the Telemachy, which basically tells the story of Odysseus’s son. It’s sort of the setting for before Odysseus comes home. Then, Books 5 – are basically from Odysseus’s point of view. Homer does something weird with the point of view. He writes it third person, but then you get the feeling it’s sometimes first-person, but it’s really.. Not.. When you get to it, you’ll understand. =)
It is one of the best books that I’ve had to read for English, though. I feel bad for some of my friends who have to read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, which is RIDICULOUSLY long… And half the time he’s talking about the scenery and about the past 20 years of a policeman who says “Hi.” to the main character… (as in, that’s the only thing the policeman will have ANYTHING to do with the character).

Strange noise in my woods?

Not every night, but many nights I hear this loud screeching noise. It almost sounds like a dying cat or even a dying bird. Its very scary and creepy sounding.
It looks as though relocation is probably going to happen after all?

After reading many reports online (not exactly trustworthy), it looks as though the Winnipeg Jets might be returning after all. Whether it’s the Coyotes or the Thrashers that might be going there. By the sounds of it, it sounds like the Coyotes are returning to Manitoba. But that also leaves Atlanta soon to be without a home. Could Quebec City possibly be there new home? After all the parading that the fans of the Nordiques have been doing,,,it seems possible.

Here’s the problem: Kansas City is barking at the NHL saying they want a team. They have the building, they have corporate money, but they also have a dark past where they once had a team. The Scouts. In the two seasons they were in the NHL attendance was low. Out of the possible 8,000 season tickets, they only sold 2,000. Is it wise to send a team back there? The NHL tried to do this for Atlanta. Give them a team where it once failed and here they are again. Thinking about relocating.

Now, what about the insurance capital of the world (Hartford)? A team could thrive there providing they could get a new building. If Atlanta could get a team back, why not them? Atlanta has a huge television market. But what good is it if nobody is going to care? Hartford doesn’t have the biggest television market out there. But the fans DO care. What is the lesser of the two evils?

Lets talk about the Panthers. I always felt if they would’ve called them Miami instead of Florida and embraced the local culture they would have done a little better. Taking on Florida colors, logo, and a Florida name. Therefore getting the city involved a bit more. What’s going to happen to them?

Then we also have two historic NHL teams in crisis. The Oilers and the Islanders. Hard to imagine these two teams relocating. I get the feeling if they move Edmonton, ten years down the road they will be moving them back. What would be the point of even moving them? Yes, to save money for the time being. Which is a good reason. But with all the money they will spend trying them in a new area, why not just build them a new arena? Same with the Islanders. Why can’t they share Madison Square Garden? The Lakers, the Clippers, and the Kings all share the Staples Center. Tough to imagine both the Oilers and Islanders not existing anymore. Erasing two of the greatest dynasty’s ever. Erasing the 1983 and 1984 Stanley Cup finals.

What a day in age we live in when it’s all about the building you play in. For those of you who don’t know, Bill Davidson (former owner of the Detroit Pistons) funded his own arena in 1988. It’s called the Palace of Auburn Hills. It was state of the art in it’s day and age and forever changed the way people looked at arenas. It must be his fault, LOL.

Feel free to comment on any of this. Maybe you agree with me. And maybe you think I’m totally lost. Maybe I am.
I agree, I feel sorry for ANY fan who loses their team. Be it Coyotes fans and Jets fans.
Another issue with KC is that they are too close to the Blues. That will effect them. The same goes for Hamilton. Too close to the Sabres and Leafs.
Winnipeg has the MTS Centre. It only seats 15,000 plus. But the teams that are in trouble can barely get to 10,000 a night. This is guaranteed 15,000 a night.

Great write up man, I cant really see a move any time soon between contracts with citys and arenas most of the the NHL teams would be too exspensive to move right now… Shouild they move? Yes proabably but will they is the big question.

Here are a few reason why I think it is a little risky to assume that attendance will go up and stay up (giggity) in todays day and age…

1. Moneys is tight in most places where a family used to be able to go to the game they are having to spend that money elsewhere

2. HD LCD 3D sourond sound makes it so that maybe you would just rather watch the game in your underwear

What do you think of this story opening?

I added this as a question a few days ago and changed it according to the advice given, so it’s quite different now.. Is this any good?

Paige was uncomfortable within her sleep, her pillow felt hard and the quilt entangled her within its grasp. She twisted and turned, struggling to move whilst hot sweat clung to her skin.
“Paige!” a rough voice bellowed, tearing her awake.
“Paige! Wake up!” the voice repeated, followed by a series of uncontrolled, chesty coughs.
She opened her eyes to be engulfed by a thick, burning substance. They snapped shut again almost immediately and she rubbed them hard; they were sore and had begun to sting. In trying to get out of bed she became aware of her legs, trapped and restrained.
“Paige! Get over here!” she recognised her father’s voice, more urgent and unnerved now.
Her eyelids slowly open again to view a room clouded by dusty white. She inhaled deeply and released a dry, painful cough as she reached out to the small lamp on her bedside table and clicked the switch. The light that escaped from her lamp was usually strong and bright, but it was now dim and barely visible as it danced upon the fine branches of smoke, wavering through the mist and tantalizing her desperation for freedom. Paige tore back her covers and staggered to her feet.
What was going on?
Was she even in her own home?
“Dad?” I croaked, confused.
She squinted her eyes but could not see her Dad through the rising smoke. She could only feel the hot floor beneath her feet and hear the fiery cackles of danger. A burning sensation deep within her chest increased her fear, as she scrambled towards the desk and leant on it, gasping for breath and pleading for fresh air to fill her poisoned lungs. The more she moved, the more her back ached, her ankles felt numb and her feet tingled painfully with every step she took.
The smoke, a deadly predator, crept higher and smothered its prey, silent, although deadly as it attacked Paige’s body and filled her head with a numbing sensation.
“Paige? Can you hear me?” Dad shouted again. “Get to your door! Come on Paige!”
Paige had never heard her Dad sound that way before; he had been so brave and strong for the family after her Mum’s death, but now she could hear the panic within his voice as it quivered. This only increased her fear.
Paige tried to move but her legs were weak and her body, limp. She was desperate to escape the chaos of her own home, yet desperation was powerless against the smoke as it wrapped its delicate fingers around her, tickling at her skin and itching at her eyes…

Paige’s eyes snapped open to the sound of her alarm clock; a loud bleeping sound enough to disturb anyone from their sleep. She considered letting it play and just lying in bed for a while, but she needed to be ready for her first day back at school.
Perhaps it could have been a fresh start for her. She could have tried talking to people or made the effort to ask Eryn and Sophie for their class notes, maybe she could have asked for their help catching up…
Although, how could anyone focus on returning to school when that continued to happen?
Paige had had that same dream before, three times before, to be exact. It felt more real and more terrifying each time, which made her believe the worst was yet to come.
She let out a hard cough and took a sip of water to ease her throat. She wished she could forget about her dreams as easily as others and that when she woke, she felt normal.
“Ben, are you awake?” her Dad called from downstairs, followed by his quickened footsteps, getting louder as he approached Ben’s room next door.
Every morning Paige’s Dad made sure her brother was awake, and he never was. He was two years older than her, yet he still found it difficult to drag himself out of bed in the morning. Paige thought he did it on purpose, to wind Dad up or to gain attention. Now, she knew it was pure laziness.
She climbed out of bed and went over to her mirror to see a small, pale-faced girl with bags under her eyes and matted brown hair. She considered giving herself a make-over; maybe people at school would have seen her in a different way, or thought she was a new student. Either way, it would have gained attention and possibly have been noticeable.
Where to start?
What to use?
Paige always gave up on the idea pretty quickly. She just wouldn’t have known what to do. Although she was given her Mum’s make-up and beauty products after she died, she didn’t want to ruin them by using them before she was ready. There was one tool in the bag which looked like a pair of scissors, except they joined at the top. Paige, of course, had no idea what they were used for, so she thought it would be best if she waited until she was older to wear make-up.
Besides, wasn’t 12 a little too young?
The door slammed downstairs which told Paige her Dad had left for work. She gazed one last time at her dull reflection; it was going to be the start of a very long day…

What are some good horror movies?

I love a good scare but lately I’m having trouble finding good movies. I’m not picky about what language they’re in (as long as there’s subtitles if it isn’t in English). I also don’t really care what the rating is as long as it follows the likes/dislikes I have listed below.

Likes:
satisfying endings
Linear stories
Pleasant main characters that you can care about
good use of sound/good use of silence

Dislikes:
Sexual material (This is a sticking point for me, I don’t mind nudity or romance in my movies but I don’t want to watch sex scenes or listen to dirty jokes.)
excessive use of swearing
excessive use of jump-scares
stupid characters
gross-out scenes (aka vomiting, I can handle blood but I have a sensitive stomach when it comes to other stuff.)

A couple movies I liked were Fragile, Alone (I think it was Korean or Japanese), The Eye (Japanese), One missed call (the Japanese version), Messengers, When a Stranger Calls, Lizard Baby (Japanese), Dead Silence, Resident evil 1 and 2, and Quarantine.

I really hated the movies AVP 2, Predators, Frankenfish, Resident evil 3 and 4, Shutter, Vampires, and the Beast of Bray Road.

Insidious
Alien
Jaws
Scream (don’t remember if there’s sex in it though…..)
Wolf Creek (saw this a couple days ago, actually really intense. Only a little bit of dirty talk and some language, shouldn’t be TOO bad for ya)

jonthepain answers:

The pile of offal after you gut a deer is plenty to keep coyotes interested, if you leave the lungs, kidneys, and liver in it. The dying rabbit call works fine, but you need a blind.

To use on pelted game, the 243 doesn’t need to be loaded to full power if you handload. Try 30 grains of IMR-4064 and any big deer bullet 95 to 105 grains, for about 2500 fps. COL of 2.630″. At the lower velocity, there won’t be much expansion, or velocity-related wound channel.

But if you are a tourist-type choosing ONLY from what is on some shelf somewhere, the 223 with fmj ammo works fine on pelted game.

You do not need a license for either.
You do need a state lands access permit if you are going on state lands. Check out the Montanan Fish Wildlife and Parks site. Search for “discoveringmontana” (one word to find the website) then look at agencies to find MFWP. If you are going on private lands don’t bother obtaining the access permit.

Get a pair (or more) of strong deer hounds (40 pounds or more each) and let them catch a coyote’s scent.

If your dogs do manage to catch a coyote, though (more likely, they’d run it by you) you’d better hope your dogs can work as a team, because a wild 45-50 pound coyote will kill a singular rottweiler easily if things come down to it. A team of strong and sizeable dogs should be able to do it as well, but your bullet would be the best tool for that job. Coyotes are strong and excellent fighters, given how they make their living. Use tough dogs on them (although don’t use stupid ones like rottweilers, dobermans, or pit bulls that will attack other people for the heck of it). With hunters, dumb dogs won’t last too long.

How do you set up for deer with the wind in your face, if they always travel with the wind in their Faces?

I am new to deer hunting this year and my weapon of choice is my 1989 Jennings Compound. I read books, watched videos, and talked to old timers, but they all seem to contradict eachother and I am having a rough season so far to say the least. Any tips with anything would also be appreciated.

jonthepain answers:

Actually, deer do not always travel with the wind in their face. They (esp. Whitetails) do use the same trails to and from their feeding and sleeping areas. This is why scouting is very important for the bowhunter. You need to determine which trail they will use for the time you are going to be on your stand. Set up off of the trail with the wind in your face. This way the deer cannot smell you. If the wind changes, do not hunt this stand as it will only educate the deer and make them harder to get. You will not fool a deer’s nose. Even with the scent reducing clothing, you still need to watch the wind.

Think of it this way: A deer has three primary means of defense: smell, sight and sound. It usually takes alerting two of the three to trigger a “get the heck out of here” response. If a deer sees you but does not smell or hear you, they will try to figure out what you are. Same with if they hear you but don’t smell or see you. The exception is the nose. If they smell you, they are gone! Keep the wind in your face and set up down wind of the trail and you’re 1/3 of the way to eating venison. Good luck.

So…how many did you actually shoot at? And were you high or low, left or right when you missed?

Your 243 should be fairly flat out past 200 yards. The wind blows a lot here in central OK… Are you sure you just didnt allow for cross wind?

Shooting up hill or down hill can get missed when you shoot out on a pasture too. OK looks flat to Easterners… But a prarie pasture can offer a significant change in elevation over 200 yards.

I dont know how hard it is to get back to were you were hunting… But next trip out check your zero on that pasture.

Dont feel bad.. I was 0-2 last week. Wide on a sitting coyote at about 75 yards and I missed a running shot on another.

what do you experienced coyote hunters use for a rifle when hunting coyotes? Im looking to get a new coyote rife but not sure what brand to get. I wont buy a remington because im not a fan. I dont want to really spend over $500. Im a big fan of savage and may go with savage but have also been looking at marlin xs7 nd t/c venture rifle and options as well as weatherby vanguard. Savage edge/axis im not sure about and think the stock on it looks goofy but like the price. Are internal loading rifles good like the savage stevens? you know like without a replaceable magazine or hinge floorplate. as a staniless option marlin xs7 and savage axis/edge are the best value possibly.i will either pick a 243 or a 22-250.0-300 most likely my range to shoot maybe 400 most.

I’d go with the Savage. One they are great guns. Two if shooting varmints really gets good to ya. A few years from now you might well burn the throat out of that barrel.
The rifle that fits your budget and is fairly decent is a Stevens model 200…..

Hunting rifles. Which one and what do you think.?

I am getting ready for this year and next years fall hunting season. This year i have 1 white tail tag, 2 mule deer tags, and 1 bull moose tag.
My dad is letting me get a couple of guns, i already own the 22. lr and a 12 gauge shotgun. I was thinking of getting the 22-250 remington model 700. for the coyote. 270 win, or a 270wsm in the Tikka T3 Hunter or the Browning A-Bolt for the deer and a 30-378 weatherby mag. for the moose, im trying to get a bear tag too.

Sounds like you have your rifles and calibers well lined up. The .270 Winchester is like the perfect deer gun. Just remember, the .22-250 is a varmint caliber and coyote is about the largest critter it is suitable for. I’m not familiar with the .30-378 Weatherby but it sounds like it’ll do ya.

Coyote Hunting Rifle?

I am wondering if anyone has had luck with: Marlin XL7C, any caliber. I am new to coyote hunting, and hunting all around, and don’t want to start out with an extremely expensive gun that I might mess up due to me being new and all. I have read that it is a very nice rifle, but nothing to do with what it is capable of hunting-wise. Any advice/links appreciated… heres the link: PS: It will mainly be for coyote hunting and other varmints.

jonthepain answers:

Hi….. I honestly dont own one —- But will say this…. Judging buy its price I would say its an economy / entry level rifle….. Some economy rifles are decent and others arent… The Remington 770 is awful, the Mossberg 100-ATR is ok and the Savage / Stevens Model 200 is pretty decent….. I have noted that I have never heard a complaint about the Marlin XL7C but havent heard anything positive either…..

SO on that note I will suggest you avoid it — Not because it may be a bad gun but the chamberings it offered in…. The 30-06 is too big for coyote…. The 270 would be ok buts its also a little on the big side too…. And the 25-06 is more for connoisseurs – is expensive and not available on every sport shop shelf….

Consider the Stevens (made by Savage) Model 200…. Its in the same price range, is offered in the .223 cartridge and has an established track record for being a decent inexpensive bolt action rifle…. .223 Ammunition is available in bulk and is hugely popular with varmint hunters…. Take a look……

The Stevens 200 is even offered in 22-250 which is a better chamber than what the Marlin offers…. I prefer the .223 because the cost of ammo is cheap – especialy when target hunting…..

Take a look…..

Be sure to check out the .223 cartridge guide……

Marlin makes a most excellent lever gun and hey – maybe the XL7C might be nice but because of what cartridge chambers it s offered in I would avoid it…..

Hope this helps…..

Doing a lot of hog hunting myself, I would say it depends on where you hunt. In close up brush hunting the 94 Winchester in 44-40 is great. In open fields or where longer shots are taken, the 308 is unbeatable. If you have both where you hunt I would recommend a Carbine in 308. I once shot a 365 pound feral with a 22 mag. [I don't recommend it] and dropped him in his tracks. Body shots take a lot of energy but head shots are deadly with any thing from 222 Rem and up.

So you just saw that show on tv tonight huh? I don’t know specifically about the bounty on them, but all you need to hunt them is a license. No tags needed, no limit, no season, no restriction on method. Just follow all regular hunting laws, like for trespassing, etc. Traps, snares, and dogs work best for more quantity, but if you stalk them remember that they hear and smell really well and will often charge instead of flee. If you are not experienced then I suggest you stay in a tree and bait them or use a trapping method.

Hi, I was wondering what a “fawn in distress” or “doe in distress” may sound like. I just purchased a mouth call “Johnny Stewart mac daddy coyote coxer” and it claims to be able to produce rabbit, bird fawn and doe distress calls… the instructional dvd shows how to make bird and rabbit calls but omits the fawn or deer ones, I am hunting the coyotes in an area where their principle food source is deer so I am quite interested in making that call. Can anyone describe or perhaps link me to a site on how to produce this call? Thanks

Anyone know where I could download a sound clip of a Fisher Cat?

I have what I think is a fisher cat terrorizzing me. I will be out at night smokin a cig on the deck and I hear what sounds like a coyote getting a hot soldering iron stuffed in his eye socket. I mean I am used of close encounters with wildlife and for the most part they don’t want to bother me any more than I want to bother them. It is like this little prick is stalking me. You could be just sitting outside at night and all the sudden you hear this god awful shrilling call, howl, whatever the hell it is. And it is usually within 30 or 40 feet. You can’t hear them coming through the woods like a coyote, you can hear them coming a half mile away. I am told these are violent little bastards and I wish to exterminate him or them immediately.

I would use a pickle bucket fill with feed corn and grain about 1/2 full then fill mixing regularly with water until 3/4 full place in driveway on hot day with loose fitting lid let simmer all day do not put on lid tight or you will have mess and angry wife . Later take into woods note it heavy good time to invest in game carrier. Put in good location punch holes into bucket as sent is getting out every pig/bear with in 10 miles is coming to it. Lock and load my friend. I hunt mostly bow some times with friends and dogs just to enjoy every bit of opportunity.Dave -Tampa

What interesting behavior to be able to witness. There are two reasons I cant think that this may be occurring. 1) The cat is a threat to the bird who is is attempting to protect its nest or 2) birds have been known to try and steal fur from cats or dogs to line their nests during breeding season. But the video looks more like a protective behavior.

Good horror/alien story?

In a world where zombies have overrun the cites and pockets of survivers struggle to survive, a spaceship crashes on earth…and the alien from the “Alien” franchise comes out and starts going berserko like it always does in the movies, etc and some become zombiefied and others just kill and survive and a second spaceship arrives, which brings predators from the “Predator” franchise who are hunting the Aliens, and some become zombies as well. So now survivors of earh must fight zombies, aliens, and predators and that’s pretty much it. I call it “The Alien Dead.” I’m visioning it as either a movie, a short story, a graphic novel (comic book), or a video story.
jonthepain answers:

Aliens vs Predator is not a genre, though, so I don’t think you can do this even if you add zombies to it.
Personally, I think it might get confusing with these three supernatural (bugger, that’s totally not the right word, but I’ll run with it) creatures running around on Earth. The reader might be a bit overwhelmed with all three of them wreacking havoc.

I can’t see it working as a short story – it’s too complicated, I think. A longer novel, perhaps, or a graphic novel. I’m not experienced with movies or video stories so I can’t give advice on them.

Goood luck

EDIT: Yes, it’s a franchise. It’s NOT a genre. The movies/books all stem from the same main plotline. By those rules I could say the Lord of the Rings is a genre, because they have three movies and countless fanfics. It’s not.

If you’re going to write this, write it for yourself or write it as a fanfic. Otherwise you could run into trouble.

Has anyone ever seen active camouflage using regular mirrors?

This was something I saw demonstrated on Discovery Channel a few years back. It was a full body suit covered in tiny mirrors almost like sequins, for the purpose of reflecting the environment.
Why are you vegetarian/vegan?

Is it a health choice? An animal rights choice? Maybe both? What is the reason why you are vegetarian/vegan?

I’m very passionate about animal rights but I do eat meat. I am also not against hunting. Quite the contrary, actually. I believe that in many, many places, we have eradicated the natural predators of many animals and without hunting they will die slow deaths of starvation, disease, be run down in the road and other terrible things because of out of control population. I have seen this to be true in many areas. I eat meat because I believe animals were put here for us to eat. Period. I have seen all the PETA videos and I agree that they are terrible. However, all farms are not like that. If you research, you can find which companies have no history of USDA violations. Killing anything is never pretty, that’s true. There are, however, ways to kill animals for food that are not cruel. And that is why I eat meat.

I am just wondering why you don’t. I’m not against vegetarian/veganism and I am passionate about animal rights. I just believe they were put here for us to eat and that as long as it is done as humanely as possible, there’s nothing wrong with it.
If I was lined up and KNEW I was ready to die, yes I’d be scared. But if you know anything about farming and slaughtering, then you know it isn’t like that. Do some research on it.
Actually, choosing which animals are pets and which are food is a culture thing. There are cultures that don’t eat cows, that don’t eat pigs, that DO eat dogs, that DO eat cats… this to me only proves that animals ARE here for us to eat. It’s just a cultural choice regarding which ones.

jonthepain answers:

If memory serves, statistics do show that vegans are 4 times less likely to have heart disease. There’s a slew of other health related issues regarding vegetarianism, among them greatly reduced instances of many types of cancer, obesity, diabetes and so on.

It all comes down to money. Factory farming is largely brutal because brutal is cheaper. I refuse to support the industry. But the idea of eating meat, wherever it comes from and regardless of the level of suffering is just disgusting to me. I cannot see it as anything other than dead flesh. It’s about as unappetizing as anything I can think of.

I don’t have a problem with people who choose to eat meat. It’s entirely personal. However, there is merit in being vegan from an environmental standpoint. The methane alone from cattle is a huge problem as far as global warming is concerned. In addition to that, rivers are polluted and forests are slashed and burned to make more room for pasture and growing grains to feed animals. But, it’s like recycling, I don’t expect you to do it for the environment just because I do.

I don’t believe that animals were put here for humans to eat. I think that along millions of years of history, man figured out that some animals taste good and others were cute and cuddly. The tasty ones ended up on the grill and the cute ones we call pets. Cows, pigs, chicken, etc are in abundance because we breed them that way. It doesn’t seem ok to me that we safeguard and love dogs and cats and raise other animals to be slaughtered.

Basically, eating meat is a tradition that just doesn’t make sense to me given the environmental strain, the health ramifications, the suffering of the animals and most importantly, the availability of so many other options.

What organization is protecting rapists and child predators.?

A nationally recognized organization may be intentionally distributing false information while protecting rapists and child predators. And the federal government has given them $3.9 billion since 1987 in taxpayer funds.

Planned Parenthood has been caught in a tangled web. The spotlight is finally being shed on this organization, which has failed to legally report the pregnancies of a 16-year-old who was raped by her father, of an 11-year-old girl who was impregnated by her stepfather, and of a 15-year-old who was sexually assaulted and impregnated by her stepfather’s friend.

Believe it or not, it gets worse. Life Dynamics, a pro-life group that researches the abortion industry, conducted a study of the Planned Parenthood-affiliated facilities across the country to determine if their staff consistently fails to report cases of statutory rape. An adult woman posed as a 13-year-old girl, pregnant by her 22-year-old boyfriend. In over 800 calls to Planned Parenthood and National Abortion Federation affiliated facilities, she made it clear she wanted to cover up her relationship and pregnancy.

According to Life Dynamics, over 90 percent of the facilities verbally acknowledged the situation was illegal yet readily agreed to conceal the illegal sexual activity from the police, and gave the caller instructions on how to circumvent the law. This translates to “accessory to crime” in my book.
This isn’t a local issue, but one of severe national concern. Our country sends millions of dollars around the world to encourage safe and legal health care for women, yet within our own borders, we now find out, we may be subsidizing an organization that apparently engages in deliberately ignoring reporting and viability laws. And it’s all happening with the aid of your money. One state, Kansas, is taking exceptional steps in their efforts to protect young women. The Johnson County District Attorney, Phill Kline, recently filed 107 criminal charges against a local Planned Parenthood facility, alleging felony charges of falsifying documents along with charges of performing late term abortions. This is a positive step toward protecting young women and in stopping the illegal practices and lies of Planned Parenthood.

One deception perpetuated by that same Kansas facility, has already surfaced. Peter Brownlie, Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri’s president and chief executive officer, admitted to the Associated Press that his facility does not perform abortions past 22 weeks. However, on the website of the Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood in Overland Park, it clearly states the clinic will perform abortions up to 23 weeks gestation.
These charges, filed after a judge reviewed the evidence and found probable cause that crimes have been committed, leads one to inquire about what could be found inside their facilities in Ohio, Florida, or Massachusetts. Every Planned Parenthood need now be accountable.

In a separate action, a citizen’s petition has been filed against that same Planned Parenthood in Kansas asking for a grand jury to be convened in order to investigate cases of unreported suspected child rape, sexual abuse, and failure to comply with parental consent requirements. That grand jury is scheduled to convene December 3.

Let’s hope that the Kansas supreme court does not use their trademark judicial activism to stop this grand jury from convening, like they did in a recent case against the infamous late-term abortionist Dr. George Tiller of Wichita, Kan. The court overstepped its powers and intervened against law in Kansas, which grants the citizens the legal right to properly submit petitions to convene a grand jury. Just days before the grand jury was seated, the Kansas supreme court stopped it.

Are those in the abortion industry afforded “special” rights and protection, when law abiding citizens and district attorneys get too close to revealing that they may be breaking the law?

Planned Parenthood is an enormous operation with numerous facilities nationwide. The examples abound, in which it is evident that Planned Parenthood’s practices go beyond the pale, and even break the law. Any elected official responsible for oversight of these institutions, which are funded with tax dollars, should be calling for and encouraging an investigation into the practices of Planned Parenthood in their states. Taxpayers should not be funding illegal late term abortions, the falsifying of documents, or an organization that is aiding and abetting rape in failing to report these cases to law enforcement.
